Merry and Happy All the Things..
We are in that weird in-between time, when you aren’t sure if its a work day or a made up holiday or a food coma day or a deep clean day or whatever. That’s the joy of the time between Christmas and New Years!
Generally at this time, people are making a big push to finish off the year strong, and check off those last goals of the year and admittedly on December 5th, I was definitely that person. I was planning big end of the year yoga parties I was desperately hoping would be attended, trying to set up some new guests for my studio and figure out how many things I could fit in before 2023 was over. But reality has a way of saying “GIRL YOU IN DANGER..”!
And yes that is a little dramatic. I’m not (and wasn’t) in any actual physical danger, but my body and mind was and is talking to me and since I’m always preaching about listening to them both. Here I am..writing to you fine people!
I’m not only going to catch everyone up with whats been going on, but I’m also going to celebrate some of my wins over the last few months of the year instead of furiously trying to stay busy until 11:59pm on December 31, 2023. I hope you will take some time to read my blog series this week and reflect on what your wins were for the last half of the year!
September.
PHEW.. what a summer! And it wasn’t necessarily filled with vacations and easy going times. I had applied for a small business incubator program called EforAll and I had actually won a spot back in the spring! This summer I was immersed in all the areas of running a business, including measuring my product in my community (Brockton), forecasting revenue and costs, my business mission and surveys about how I could be the best small yoga business the City of Brockton has to offer!
In addition to that, my kid started 5th grade and decided she was serious about a sport, so my schedule instantly got packed. The highlight of September though, was my 10 min final presentation for EforAll. It included fancy slides that I created from scratch and pulling together everything we had learned over the summer. It ended with a 3 panel judge asking 10 minutes of questions. And YALL! I KILLED IT. I realized after all the nerves had left, that it was the most in control and clear-eyed I have been about my business since I first ventured into 200hr YTT training.
So in case you were confused, GreenTree Yoga is a black-owned yoga studio for those who are looking to start, explore or expand their yoga practice in an environment that’s diverse, all-inclusive and can offer a sense of community!
I was riding a small business high and added 3 additional classes to my schedule for the remainder of the year. And while I love teaching yoga in the traditional yoga studio setting, one of the great highlights has been actually getting out into my community and doing yoga with Brockton. So for the second year in a row, I brought my yoga chairs to the Fuller Craft museum for a collab with Pinnacle Partnerships at the end of September. This years We Outside Event was a little rainy, but the music was too good to not have had an amazing time!
Finally I made another great connection in this amazing city. After doing a one day health event with Brockton Neighborhood Health in August, I was able to collaborate with them again and offer yoga to and meet a whole network of amazing Kriolas that help keep BNH running!! I worked really really really hard this summer and decided that I was going to do something amazing and fun for my birthday in October..
But you’ll have to wait until tomorrow to hear about how my October went..
So what about you? How was your September? Give me some details, gimme the good the bad and the ugly…
