I’m pretty sure that quote is Drake..
About 2 years ago, I was sitting in the lobby of my daughter’s dance class, talking to the other “dance moms” (I miss them so much) and said I wish there was a place for us to practice yoga in Brockton. When they all suggested that I make that place in Brockton, I laughed it off and continued the rest of my day.
But a seed was planted. I would think about and dream about and eventually, start talking about someplace to practice yoga, to anyone who would listen. And somewhere in all that my dream turned into a goal.
But then, as is the opening for all stories these days, Pandemic 2020 hit the world full force and mostly I was just thinking about taking care of my family and not getting sick. After that fear calmed down though, I started to think about what I wanted post-pandemic to look like. I realized, I wanted to do things different than I had been doing them. Instead of thinking about it, and dreaming about and talking about it, I actually wanted to DO IT.
So my 2020 plans, schemes and machinations – becoming YTT certified, offering donation based yoga in the park, teaching at Work Out World! in Brockton – have finally resulted in this. A space in my hometown of Brockton, where I can offer yoga to my community!
I’ve only lived here 10 years, but I feel like Brockton has often been a city on the brink of big things. And whether those big things are actually small things, like a Starbucks at Westgate, or are really large, like the revitalization of downtown, the energy the city brings is undeniable! Even if it’s on a small scale, I want to do my part to help my city on the brink of big things, and if I can do that with something I love, like yoga, even better.
With all that said, here we are. April 2021, one year removed from a total and complete shut down of the world and I am opening a yoga space! I found a beautiful building, the Franklin Building, on the south side of Brockton, at 1106 Main Street on the second floor. Directly across from Walgreens, the building should be easy to find! It’s along a bus route, and if there isn’t any parking on the street, parking is always available behind the gas station at no charge.
I’ve updated my class offerings both on my webpage and on my Instagram, with a few specials available for April, so please check it out and ask me any questions! (or make suggestions)!
Finally, I just want to remind everyone that yoga is for everybody. The benefits of yoga are for everyone, even you, even right now. No, you don’t have to workout regularly. No, you don’t have to “be flexible” (whatever that means). No, you don’t have to be a certain weight or look a certain way. You don’t have to do to be anything but yourself. And if you are doing that (or working towards it), then you are exactly the type of person I would like to do some yoga with!
Peace and Power,
